In the 2020 academic year, 23 girls got scholarships. Schools closed in March 2020 after the outbreak of the pandemic and for 3 months Rwanda went into total lockdown. In Rusizi District, there was a lockdown extension to September 2020.
By the time schools resumed In November 2020, the session had an additional trimester. We had to provide beneficiaries with another package of Scholastic and welfare materials to last to the end of the academic year; June 2021. In a review meeting held in September, beneficiaries shared their stories and wrote gratitude letters to donors. As we shared a meal, worshipped, and prayed for the upcoming academic year, the joy, laughter, and hope across the room was evident.
