The African proverb, “educate a girl and you educate a nation” remains true. We believe that education contributes directly to the growth of national income, by improving the productive capacity of the labor force in any community. It is also true that education is crucial for the empowerment of girls and the protection of their dignity as human beings. It is against this backdrop that Cyizere Girls was established. In 2015, through our partnerships we began to provide scholarships to some of the brightest girls in the Rusizi District, enabling them to attend Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) schools, where they can acquire the skills necessary to meet market needs in Rwanda. The scholarships are merit-based and obtained through a process of selection involving a critical review of their academic successes, a strong desire to learn, and their family situation. Girls are able to choose from a range of fields including tailoring, masonry, hospitality management, computer applications, and Accountancy.
