Helene’s family obligations had always interfered with her studies. Once a week, she would study then help her mother with farming the rest of the week. Despite excelling at her ordinary level exams Helene had no hope to further her education. But that changed when she got a two-year scholarship to pursue a Computer Applications course.
Hennriette has completed her Culinary Arts course at Jill Barham TVET School. Before getting the scholarship she worked as a housemaid in Kamembe to secure food, accommodation and money to commute to school. Juggling between work and school was difficult but with the encouragement of her friends, she applied for the scholarship. Getting it was an answered prayer as it covered her accommodation, tuition fee, and scholastic and welfare materials. Grateful, she always topped her class and hopes to establish her catering company one day and support other girls like her.
Josephine is a previous beneficiary of the scholarship given annually to a girl with a disability. Born with a deformity and now using a prosthetic limb, she has learnt tailoring and transformed her life. Her enthusiasm to improve her life encouraged us to procure an electric tailoring machine for her. Today, she has a tailoring business in Kamembe and makes bags, dresses, school uniforms among others. Having overcome societal beliefs and limitations, Josephine is proof that a chance is all one needs to succeed.
With your support, we can do more because when girls with disabilities excel in vocational skills, many in similar circumstances are motivated. These testimonials are a great encouragement for the work we are doing. By empowering these girls through education, you are giving them a chance at a better life. This wouldn’t be possible without your generosity.
